proto-friends

it was TA day today, so i went to a series of fairly informative workshops on how to be a better TA, and what to do if people confront you about not getting an A or if they buy their paper on the internet and that sort of thing. then pizza and drinkies with other TAs. i hung out with the other english grads. lookit me with proto-friends! it was fun.

anyway, then we had jamaican food for tea (fried green bananas!) and talked marxism, which profs are sleeping together and what the food's like in russia (so hip. so very hip.) and went back to j+r's place for more beer. and on the way to the bus-stop i saw this!!!:

the little blob in the middle is a skunk! a real skunk with a big stripe on its tail! and, bbb, i agree about the nighttime vision on this camera. booo.

all in all, a satisfactory day. oh, the morning was still hard, but they always are. lots of good things planned for the weekend as well. might start trying to do some study too. i think it's time.

Do skunks project their bad smelliness?

what I meant about poor light and the camera related to its propensity to use flash when the light seemed okay, which presumably relates to a not particularly good shutter speed.

But the night time thing is also difficult as one can't actually see the subject on the screen at night, so you just aim and fire in hope.

no, it was a cute little skunk. but i kept my distance just in case. still haven't got that silly laundry card, so any smells on my clothes stay there!

i improved this picture (i think) by mucking around with it on iphoto - b+w, for instance. but all the shots of the view across the city night lights have been crummy too. oh well. in all other ways it is a perfect camera.

I think the photo is very artistic & great idea to change it to Grey Scale! I gather your camera doesn't have through-the-lens focusing so you don't have to rely on the LCD screen? One solution might be to cut the end out of a bucket and slip it on ur head while roaming at night. That'll dim the reflections off the screen!

what's jamaican food like? and the fried green bananas tasted...??

no, crin, my camera is far too teenytiny and hightech to have a stupid through-the-lens focusing thing!

i like the bucket idea. in fact, i have a spare bucket (well, actually it belongs to the woman down the hall who actually owns cleaning products and lent them too me, but i'm sure she wouldn't mind). i'm going skunk hunting! thankyou for yr expert advice.

the jamacian food was luuuurvely. i had this huge wrap thing made from chickpea flour and stuffed full with beans and chickpeas and corn and peas and other good things. . . oh yes. and a strange carbonated drink called 'ting!'

fried green bananas were not so good, but the others liked them. but then they ate goat curry, so.

what does 'ting' taste like? did it go 'ting!' on your tastebuds! ha ha!

oh dear...

mmmm, goat curry. chewy chewy goodness.
