halloween

here's some pictures of the crowd. sorry they're all blurry. think of it as atmospheric. it was an amazing crowd and the costumes were so inventive! lots of really clever stuff and pretty stuff and really properly creepy stuff. lots of skulls, too. they had a little shrine to the dead under a tree, with photos and newspaper clippings and great streamers hanging from the branches.

these two were all in lycra with rollerblades and ski poles, zipping round:

this is just for the gaurox:

the blurry lights are from this fabulous fire twirling exhibition on the tennis courts.

this was the fire twirling. it was pretty amazing. they had poi, whips, swords, sticks, hula hoops, people on stilts with great chandelier things - spectacular. the person inside the red sheet thing turned out to be a short bearded guy with dragon wings who spat fire. and a young girl - his daughter?

this is the dancers around the drumming group - lots of people, great crowd.

there were three of these ppl but i only managed to get one.

looks wonderful - would have been great to be there

what were the two in the red sheet doing? dancing?

next year you can dress up

took students to a mosque and a buddhist temple yesterday. The guy at the mosque disturbed me greatly - reinforced all my prejudices, when i was hoping to have them reduced

the temple was full of incense with a smiling monk telling jokes - reinforced all my prejudices again!

i like my pic

it was pretty great to be there.

the two in the red sheet were making scary movements through the cloth. it was all a bit performance artish, until the guy came out and started fire breathing. (which is extraordinarily bad for you, by the way - the chemicals give you cancer)

hmm. i wanted to dress up this year.

sorry to hear about your mosque experience. my fundo has written a proposal wihtout using the g-word once, so i am very proud of him. buddhist temples are cool. shoes?

glad you like the pic. to make it show you have to log in. choose an identity 'blogger' and then put in the username and password i emailed you.

(you commented four times!)
